An Opportunity for Transformation

El Laurel, Leadership and Cultural Transformation Center, offers a unique opportunity for individuals and groups to discover their attitudes, mental and behavioral patterns (the way they see and do things) that bring about the results they are obtaining at the current moment. Each person is a co-creator of his/her reality and not just a simple victim of the circumstances.

When we manage to recognize those attitudes and patterns that limit our potential we can also unveil what ties us to them, making it possible to dissolve them in order to begin acting in harmony with our potential and not with our self-imposed limitations. For example, a person known for blaming others of his or her situation discovers to have underlying assumptions and a reasoning process that drives him or her to think and act that way. This person upon recognizing the origin of such patterns can intentionally decide to discard the subtle habit and thus be transformed into someone different who assumes personal responsibility for his or her own actions.

The potential of a group is limited by the real or imaginary barriers within each one of its members. Each member will devote much time and energy defending and preserving his or her attitudes and beliefs (their identity or perceived way of being), be it conscious or unconscious. As a result, these patterns are not easy to overcome even if they generate more harm than good.

When individuals are surmounting an obstacle thought impossible of overcome, or when they are 30 or more feet above the ground and discover that they are capable of doing things they believed impossible, they modify their attitude and their beliefs about themselves and others. In order to surpass undesirable attitudes or beliefs individuals first need to be aware of them, and also understand the effects these attitudes and beliefs exert on their decisions and their life as a whole.
